Hi! Welcome to SUTEKH! We are extremely glad that you found us, and we hope that you come to feel the same way too. Hopefully this page will give you a bit of an insight as to why you want to be a part of our club. Or, if you've already joined, just what exactly you've got yourself into.
Sutekh has been around since 1976, created originally as a Dr. Who appreciation society. Over time, Sutekh evolved to represent anyone who is interested in any of the following:
Sutekh runs more weekly events than any other club (in 2008 there will be four), and also runs more events overall. Sutekh spends a lot of its spare time while at uni hanging out in either the glassroom or Manning Bar, talking about anything and everything. Sutekhers usually find out about the club through the university at O-Week, but there are Sutekh members who have never attended Sydney Uni as well as those who no longer attend university. Finally, Sutekh has a very active online presence (see below) and is very active throughout the year, rather than just during semester like other clubs.
Come along to our stand during O-Week, where you can sign up. While our exact location is unknown until close to the week itself, we have very large signage and very friendly stall staff. Typically we'll be located near other geek societies - such as SUAnime and SUITS.
In 2008 to become a member you need to join the University of Sydney Union and purchase the ACCESS card. The access card costs you $99, and means that you can join as many Union clubs as you'd like, and receive all the benefits we can give you for being a member. To get an ACCESS card, head over to Manning House (home of Manning Bar) and visit the University of Sydney Union office.
Sutekh runs regular events at which you'll typically benefit from being an ACCESS card holder. If you come along to Beer & Cards, we can offer you a free drink every week, along with whatever snackage we're providing. On Friday nights, come along to Pizza & Games and pay only $4 for a large pizza from Pizza Haven, and purchase cans of drink for $1. If you don't have the card, you won't be eligible for a free drink nor discounted pizza (regular price $8). We're also screening two great shows (Dr Who and Buffy) every week during Semester 1.
And those are just the official things that we do! SUTEKH is a very social club and hence it is also a great way to make friends at Uni and generally just hang out and have a good time. So, even if you're not sure about whether to join our club, come along to one of our events or to Manning House, where we usually are, to get to know us better. We promise you won't be disappointed.
